WHEN PEN AND ink followed by watercolour, acrylic or digital colouring seems too labour intensive, it is nice to cut back to the basics and just continue working on the pencil draft until it is in, as near as possible, a finished state.

The wide variety of tones, shading and effects you can get with a normal range of soft pencils means that extremely expressive results are possible.

I love just settling down to encapsulate the latest famous person to have hit the newspapers with a detailed caricature pencil drawing. Some of these are going to end up in my first ever one-man exhibition in a local cafe. More news about this as and when it develops!
